Your Ceremony, Your Way.
Weddings • Vow Renewals • Special Occasions
If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve made the wonderful decision to get married – congratulations! Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life, and every detail matters. You’ve planned the venue, the dress, the flowers, and the music… but what about the words of the ceremony itself?
Many couples don’t realise that in the UK, much of your ceremony can be personalised to reflect your love story – as long as the legal wording is included.
The Legal Part – Simple & Flexible
Since 1994, UK law has allowed civil marriage ceremonies in licensed venues beyond registry offices. More recently, many venues have also been licensed for Civil Partnership ceremonies.
The only words you are legally required to say in front of a registrar (at a registry office or licensed venue) are:
Declaratory Words:
“I do solemnly declare that I know not of any lawful impediment why I (your name) may not be joined in matrimony to (partner’s name).”
Contracting Words:
“I call upon these persons here present to witness that I (your name) do take thee (partner’s name) to be my lawful wedded wife/husband.” (This wording varies slightly for Civil Partnerships.)
Alongside this, you must:
- Formally identify yourselves to the registrar.
- Sign the marriage or civil partnership register in front of two witnesses and the registrar.
Everything else – your vows, the readings, the music, the location – is entirely up to you!
The Ceremony of Your Dreams – Anywhere You Choose
Because the personal, emotional part of your wedding is separate from the legal formalities, you can hold your ceremony anywhere you dream of.
Imagine…
- Saying your vows barefoot on a sunset beach.
- Standing hand in hand in a bluebell wood.
- Celebrating at your favourite beauty spot.
- Exchanging rings in your own garden surrounded by loved ones.
If you can imagine it – and have permission – I can help make it happen.
I will work with you to create a completely bespoke ceremony, unique to your relationship. From helping you write your vows, to suggesting music and readings, I’ll make sure every word and every moment reflects your love and commitment.
Renewal of Vows – A Celebration of Love
Couples choose to renew their vows for many beautiful reasons:
- A special anniversary – marking the journey you’ve shared.
- A fresh start – after overcoming difficult times together.
- A celebration of resilience – following illness, challenges, or life changes.
- The wedding you always wanted – now you can create it your way.
Your renewal ceremony will be personal, heartfelt, and full of meaning – a celebration of your story, your happy memories, your laughter, and the challenges you’ve overcome together.
To mark the occasion, you’ll receive a Personalised Renewal of Vows Certificate as a keepsake of this special day.
